Auto accident injuries are a common occurance in the streets of Chicago and, in fact, are the leading cause of death for those under the age of thirty-four. Each year in the USA there are approximately five million car crashes, truck collissions, and motorcycle accidents in which more than forty thousand people are killed.
When that accident was the fault of someone else, the injured party may be entitled to monetary compensation from the person whose negligent conduct caused the injury or damages. Traffic accidents cost the public more than $150 billion per year, and statistics indicate that every American is likely to be involved in at least one auto accident during his lifetime. If you're involved in an auto accident, it is imperative to know what actions to take in order to ensure your well being and protect your legal rights.
Car Crashes & Auto Accidents If you're involved in a car collission, truck crash or motorcycle accident, you should immediately call the police. If there are serious injuries, call 911 and have and ambulance and/or paramedics dispatched, if necessary. It is imperative that the police report is correct and that it accurately reflects your interpretation of the events leading up to the accident. If, by chance, you have a camera with you, take photographs of the scene BEFORE moving the vehicles, assuming it is safe to do so. Additionally, someone should interview all people who may have witnessed the accident, and record their comments, either in writing or by tape recorder. These interviews should be completed as soon as possible while the facts are still fresh in the witnesses' memory. Seek immediate medical attention if you are injured in any way. If treatment is delayed, the Defendant may argue that it was not his negligent driving that caused the personal injury, but something else that may have occurred after the accident took place. |
